Subject Why timing matters more than reach in selective introductions

Why timing matters more than reach in selective introductions.

Reach creates possibility. Timing determines whether a conversation holds.

TL;DR: In selective introductions, access alone is not enough. A well-timed introduction creates momentum. A poorly timed one creates friction, even when the fit is real.

People often treat access as the hard part.

In many markets, the harder part is timing. The right person may be reachable, relevant, and credible, but still not ready for the conversation now.

That is why timing matters more than reach in selective introductions.

Reach tells you a conversation is possible. Timing tells you whether it is likely to go somewhere useful.

A well-timed introduction can accelerate a hire, a partnership, or an advisory relationship before the opportunity becomes obvious. A poorly timed one often creates delay, ambiguity, or unnecessary work.

This is especially true with strong counterparties. They are rarely short on options. They are short on attention, and least tolerant of friction.

That is why selective introductions depend on reading signals early enough to know when demand is forming, but before the market becomes crowded.

In that kind of environment, timing does not improve the introduction. It determines its odds of mattering.
